Today saw AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College make their debut in their brand new Kingsfield facility in front of 109 spectators as part of the leagues Ground Hop day.
Just seven minutes into the contest Colby Smith got his head to a pinpoint cross to put the home side in front. Sixteen minutes later Jack Boyd levelled matters. Good work down the Caldecote right saw the ball fall to him and he was able to poke the ball passed the wrong-footed Matt Mann in goal.
Town went back in front on 34 minutes when Justin Newman powered a header in from a corner, rising highest in the box.
Just 60 seconds later it was 2-2 via a successful penalty kick from Jake Wallace. The kick being awarded after Josh Spavins clashed at the back post with a Caldecote striker.
The second half was an end-to-end contest with chances at both ends. Caldecote hit the bar in the closing moments and second later Newman had a chance under the bar, but as the ball fell he was only able to make minimal contact and the ball sailed over the crossbar. On reflection the draw was a fair result with both team dominating at times during the game.
Next week Town are at Kingsfield against another tough fixture against Wilstead in the league.
