Town edge out Cranfield
Town 3-1 Cranfield
AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College moved up to fourth place in the league with a 3-1 victory over Cranfield United. With so many games coming up in a short period of time, Town took the opportunity to rest Courtney Boughton and Chris Wright with Elliott West dropping to the bench. This saw Justin Newman, Ryan Smith and Taylor Bakogeorge return to the starting line up and Ben Luke and Daniel Green return to the squad as substitutes.
Kempston started brightly and found themselves in front after 20 minutes. Good work from Michael Stephenson down the right wing saw his pinpoint low cross find Delroy Phillips unmarked at the back post and he calmly slotted the ball into the net. Town continued to dominate for large spells of the first half and doubled their lead on the 35th minute. As with the first goal, good work for Stephenson down the right wing found Phillips in the box. This time his shot was well saved by the Cranfield keeper but Bakogeorge was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball into an unguarded net.
The second half saw Cranfield gain some momentum and keep possession of the ball far better than in the first. Their reward for this on the hour mark was a mix up at the back for Town, seeing them inadvertently steer the ball into their own goal to make the scoreline 2-1.
Town introduced West and Green from the bench to freshen things up and this worked. On 74 minutes Green picked the ball up just inside the Cranfield half. He broke down the left side, before cutting in past two Cranfield defenders and firing the ball past the helpless keeper from 25 yards.
This goal calmed the game down and allowed Town to see the game out with the final scoreline being 3-1. On Saturday Town face an in form Marston side with both teams looking to gain a place in the League Cup semi final. The game is at Wixams and will be a 2:30pm kick off.
